3rd Annual “Live at the Orinda” Champagne Comedy Event
Launches March 2nd
Will Durst Headlines Acclaimed Comedians to Deliver Side-Splitting
Laughs |
|
Orinda, California (January 15, 2012) – For the third
year, San Francisco's lovers of laughter will have the renewed
opportunity to enjoy a champagne-filled night of comedy at the landmark
Orinda Theatre on Friday, March 2nd. The Orinda Chamber of Commerce, in
collaboration with Tommy T's Comedy Clubs and The Lamorinda Film &
Entertainment Foundation, today announced plans for the third "Live at
the Orinda" event. Past events gained rave reviews, perhaps topped by
"Orinda ain't Borinda anymore."
The fun evening will start at 6:45 p.m. with a lobby reception featuring
full no-host bars. Champagne, wine and mixed drinks can also be
purchased during the open seating performances, starting at 7:30 p.m.
with a brief mid-show intermission. Master of Ceremonies, local favorite
Michael Fender, will sing, entertain and introduce each comedian. This
year's slate features Kabir Singh (Kabeezy), Dan St. Paul, Johnny Steele
and headliner Will Durst, who The New York Times calls "possibly the
best political comic in the country."
"This show should be one of the best," said Rick Kattenburg, Chamber
Director and its originator. "We have award-winning comedians, and Tommy
of "Tommy T's Comedy Clubs" has again been indispensible in helping us
put together a great slate of comics. This year we’ve also added live
music. This will be the perfect date night, so come on out and laugh
'till it hurts!"
Discounted performance tickets at $35.00 may be reserved in advance
until March 1st using a major credit card at the Orinda Chamber of
Commerce web site or at First Republic Bank, 224 Brookwood Road. Tickets
at the door (if available) will be $40.00 per person.
A portion of any profits from this event will benefit local non-profit
organizations as well as the on-going community work of the Chamber.
Advanced reservations are limited to 700 ticket holders, so attendees
are encouraged to reserve early.
The Chamber's goal is again to delight more than 700 guests – aged 17
and older - as they enjoy the classic surroundings of an Art Deco
Masterpiece Theatre and an evening of friendship rediscovering the magic
of laughter.
Sponsorships for
area organizations are available for this event, featuring a listing in
the event program and visual big-screen rotating exposures of the
sponsor's message prior to the performances and during each of the
intermissions. Sponsors may reserve their sponsorships at $100.00 online
using a major credit card at the Orinda Chamber web site – at
http://orindachamber.org/memberpayments.htm.

ABOUT THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES |
Michael
Fender: The four ingredients that really insure success for
the Michael Fender Show are: 1) Massive Musical Variety from
Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett to Lady GaGa and The Black Eyed
Peas, and everything in between. Seeing the Michael Fender Show is
like taking a fun ride on a Musical Time Machine. His show
satisfies the musical appetite of virtually every age group.
2) Priceless Audience Interaction. Michael Fender get the crowd
going!!! He makes his way around the entire event room with
wireless microphone technology and really gets the crowd involved,
making them feel extremely special and gives them a well deserved
night off from their everyday stresses, challenges, and woes,
particularly in this challenging economic time 3) Michael Fender
does a masterful job at serving as Master of Ceremonies for events
that really adds a dynamic spark of energy to the event which
keeps the event on track 4) Maybe most important, Michael Fender
never personally takes a break the entire length of his show. He
builds a Momentum and keeps that Momentum at a Maximum the entire
length of the event. There are too many acts performing today
that take long breaks which is not conducive for a successful
event. Michael Fender builds entertainment excitement and keeps
the event fire burning. He has been referred to at "Fundraising"
events as the ultimate "Fun-Raiser" for the "Fund-Raiser."
As the
entertainment director from Harrah's Lake Tahoe and Reno was
quoted saying, "Michael Fender is a never miss, sure to please,
consummate professional. For a unique evening of quality
entertainment you can't go wrong with Michael Fender."

ABOUT THE COMEDIANS |
|
Will Durst:
As the sacred cows routinely paint
targets on their foreheads practically begging for someone to puncture
their pomposity, America cries out for a man with the aim, strength,
and style to hit them where it hurts the funniest. Will Durst is that
man. Sweeping both sides of the aisle with a quiver full of arrows
dipped in common sense, Durst transcends party ties, having performed
at events honoring former Presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush
as well as acclaimed appearances at both a Mayors Convention and
Governors Conference.
Outraged and outrageous, Durst is as current as today's headlines, as
accurate as a sniper, and universally acknowledged by even his peers
as the nation's foremost political comic.
A Midwestern baby boomer with a media- induced identity crisis, Durst,
according to the New York Times is “quite possibly the best political
satirist working in the country today.” This equal opportunity
offender is exceptionally adept at swatting both partisan political
pinatas upside their heads.
Reigning as C-SPAN's favorite comic (8 appearances,) Durst is a 5-time
Emmy nominee and recipient of 7 consecutive nominations for the
American Comedy Awards Stand Up of the Year. He is the first comic
invited to perform at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the
first American to be nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award at
the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the show “Myth America.” He has
racked up more than 400 television appearances in 14 different
countries while slinging jokes around the globe in his one man crusade
to make people laugh out loud on purpose against their will. |

Kabir Singh (Kabeezy):
Kabir Singh is the 2009 winner of the Rooster T Feathers Bay Area
Stand up Comedy Competition and the 2010 Winner of the San Jose Improv
Bay Area Stand up comedy Competition beating over 180 of the finest
comics in Cali in impressive fasion by coming in first place in all 3
rounds in both competitions!! Since then Kabir has become a regular at
every major comedy club in the Bay Area working weekends and
headlining off nights at the SF Punchline, Sac Punchline, SJ Improv,
Tommy T's in Pleasanton, Rooster T Feathers and Headlining his own
full weekend at Pepperbellys Comedy Club in Fairfield. Kabir Singh has
also preformed at every major comedy club in California and has been
apart of 3 National Comedy Tours. Kabir has also shared the stage with
some of the best comics around opening for legends including Dave
Chappelle, Bill Burr, Damon Wayans JR, Anjelah Johnson, Bobby Slayton
Dat Phan and many more! Kabir Singh has quickly become one of the
fastest rising comics in California and is a must see any chance you
get! |

Dan St Paul:
After a seven-year
stint of headlining San Francisco clubs in the comedy duo Murphy-St.Paul,
Dan launched out on his own with a solo act that was to land him in
the finals of the nation's toughest comedy competition, The San
Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition.
Soon after, Dan moved to Los Angeles and appeared on several episodes
of "An Evening at the Improv", plus numerous shows on VH-1, MTV, and
Comedy Central. Since then, he has opened for such superstars as Jerry
Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Dwight Yoakum, Smokey Robinson, and Vince
Gill. In a testament to the class of his act, Dan even opened for the
San Francisco Symphony ("These guys are great! I knew them back when
they were just a garage band.") .
He appeared in the movie "Flubber" with Robin Williams, and signed a
recording deal with MCA records. His CD, "Natural and Good for You"
contains one the most requested comedy pieces on radio, "The First
Baseball Game". He also is the star of his own one-man play, "Outer
Mission, Middle Class - The Comic Diary of an Immigrant's Son".
The Los Angeles Theater and Entertainment Review said about Dan,
"Combining a sharp, clean wit with an outstanding talent for creating
characters, Dan's show appeals to audiences of all ages...what sets
Dan apart is that he doesn't just tell jokes, but rather creates a
series of comedic events."
Armed with a Bachelors Degree in Italian from UC Berkeley, a teaching
credential from San Francisco State, and a Masters Degree in special
education, the majority of Dan's material comes from being a suburban
husband and father and dealing with the frustrations of everyday life.
Corporate clients include Hewlett Packard, National Semiconductor,
IBM, Intel, Nations Bank, Philips Magnavox, Chevron, Blue Cross, and
many, many more. He customizes his material for each client and event.
Dan lives in Foster City, CA with his wife Cara and his son Roy. |

Johnny Steele:
Johnny began performing
comedy in 1984 after quitting graduate school in a move his parents
named: Operation $40K Down The Drain. But Johnny quickly got the hang
of the craft and was soon performing - and drinking for free! - at the
nation's top clubs.
During the next decade Johnny went on to perform at comedy festivals,
win comedy competitions, log over 20 national TV appearances, and did
we mention drink for free?
In 1997 Johnny left the comedy scene to host San Francisco's Live 105
Morning Radio Show. Guests ranged from Carol O'Conner to David Bowie
to city supervisors, and both the S.F. Weekly's annual readers' poll
and the S.F. Publicity Club picked it the city's best show. The
Chronicle called it the 'best morning chatter show' and also dubbed it
'clean and smart.' Therefore, it was cancelled in the summer of '98 to
make room for the Howard Stern Poop and Wiener Hour.
In 1999 Johnny's career took another turn when he became co-host of
KRON/Bay TV's THE SHOW. For three years Johnny's informal interview
style and outrageous ad-lib comments kept everyone laughing. The
irrepressible Johnny once told feminist photographer Annie Lebovitz
that he bought her book Women because he thought it was a directory.
Well, he kept almost everybody laughing.
Johnny is currently performing comedy as well as working on a number
of web, radio, and TV projects, one of which is bound to take off due
to, if nothing else, pure dumb luck. He is also working on a humorous
solo show about his journey to find peace in a WalMart America gone
mad with mindless consumption, endless sprawl, and bone jarring
stupidity. And really, aren't we all? |
