Laugh 'Til Your Sides Hurt

4th Annual “Live at the Orinda” Champagne Comedy Event
Returns to Orinda Theatre March 8th
Will Durst Headlines Acclaimed Comedians
to Deliver Side-Splitting Laughs

Orinda, California (January 22, 2013) – For the fourth year, San Francisco’s laugh-lovers will have the renewed opportunity to enjoy a champagne-filled night of comedy at the landmark Orinda Theatre on Friday, March 8th. The Orinda Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Tommy T's Comedy Clubs today announced the fourth “Live at the Orinda” event. Past events gained rave reviews for a great night on the town.

The evening will start at 7:00 p.m. and feature no host bars in the lobby and theatre. Champagne, wine and mixed drinks can also be purchased during the performances, starting at 8:00 p.m. with a mid-show intermission. Master of Ceremonies Wayne Coy, 92.1 KKDV radio personality, will open the show and introduce comedians. This year’s slate features Kabeezy, David Van Avermaete, Arthur Gaus and headliner Will Durst, who The New York Times calls "possibly the best political comic in the country" returning fresh from a recent tour with all new material.

"This line-up promises to be a great show geared to Orinda," said Rick Kattenburg, Chamber VP and the show’s originator. "We have award-winning comedians. With our live video feed to the big screen, all seats are great ones. Come enjoy an evening in downtown Orinda. This should be the perfect date night, so come on out and laugh 'till your sides hurt!"

Advance discounted and VIP tickets may be reserved until March 7th using credit cards at the Chamber web site – www.OrindaChamber.org – or at First Republic Bank, 224 Brookwood Road. Tickets at the door (if available) will be $40.00 per person. A portion of profits from this event will benefit local non-profit organizations as well as the on-going community work of the Chamber. Advanced reservations are recommended, so attendees should reserve early.

The Chamber’s goal is again to delight more than 700 guests – aged 17 and older - as they enjoy the classic surroundings of an Art Deco Masterpiece Theatre and an evening of friendship rediscovering the magic of laughter.

Sponsorships for area organizations are available for this event, featuring a listing in the event program and visual big-screen rotating exposures of the sponsor's message prior to the performances and during each of the intermissions. For detailed information about the benefits and options of becoming a sponsor - click here.

After selecting a sponsorship level, sponsors may reserve their sponsorships using a major credit card at the Orinda Chamber web site – at http://orindachamber.org/memberpayments.htm.

EVENT POSTER
ABOUT THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES

Wayne Coy: Tune in KKDV radio 99.1 FM mornings at 5 to 9 am and you'll enjoy Wayne as he plays the best music variety and talks about all sorts of local issues right here in the Diablo Valley! Before his life in radio, Wayne was a stand-up comedian, the first, in fact, to ever play at Tommy T's club in San Leandro. Wayne offers these quips about himself. I could have been Eddie on the old TV show "Courtship of Eddie's Father", did a TV commercial with O.J. Simpson before he was a murderer and went to elementary school with MC Hammer and D'Wayne Wiggins from Tony Toni Tone.

ABOUT THE COMEDIANS

Will Durst: As the sacred cows routinely paint targets on their foreheads practically begging for someone to puncture their pomposity, America cries out for a man with the aim, strength, and style to hit them where it hurts the funniest. Will Durst is that man. Sweeping both sides of the aisle with a quiver full of arrows dipped in common sense, Durst transcends party ties, having performed at events honoring former Presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush as well as acclaimed appearances at both a Mayors Convention and Governors Conference.

Outraged and outrageous, Durst is as current as today's headlines, as accurate as a sniper, and universally acknowledged by even his peers as the nation's foremost political comic.

A Midwestern baby boomer with a media- induced identity crisis, Durst, according to the New York Times is “quite possibly the best political satirist working in the country today.” This equal opportunity offender is exceptionally adept at swatting both partisan political pinatas upside their heads.

Reigning as C-SPAN's favorite comic (8 appearances,) Durst is a 5-time Emmy nominee and recipient of 7 consecutive nominations for the American Comedy Awards Stand Up of the Year. He is the first comic invited to perform at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the first American to be nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the show “Myth America.” He has racked up more than 400 television appearances in 14 different countries while slinging jokes around the globe in his one man crusade to make people laugh out loud on purpose against their will.

Kabir Singh (Kabeezy): Kabir "Kabeezy" Singh is one of the fastest rising Stand-Up Comedians in the USA headlining nights at some of the most famous clubs in California including the Hollywood Improv, Hollywood Laugh Factory, Long Beach Laugh Factory, SF Punchline, SF Cobbs, and selling out many other clubs all over America. Kabir has also opened and shared the stage with some of the biggest Stand-Up Comedians in the world including Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook, Bill Burr, Russell Peters and has also been seen touring on the "BFF" Tour with Jo Koy and Anjelah Johnson.

Kabir's highly anticipated tour all through Europe and India kicked off in September, 2012 and has included seven sold out shows in the U.K. including Glasgow, Birmingham and six shows in Bombay, India with more to come.

Kabir has been called "The Next Big Indian Comedian" by India West, and has been called "One of the must see Stand-Up Comedians in the U.S." by TV Asia. Kabir's energy, in-your-face attitude mixed with clever material and the love to please and crowd anywhere has grown him a monster fan base in a few short years, and is a must see any chance you get!

David Van Avermaete: As a 58 year old former president of a $1B fortune 500 company, ex-PGA golf Professional with 4 kids (including a six year old) and 2 wives (one former, one current), David’s act draws from a wealth of personal and professional experience. With material that ranges from the politics of the boardroom to the mysteries of the diaper genie his routine appeals to a wide range of audiences. Intelligent, edgy, contemporary, quick, cynical and smart are all adjectives used to describe his comedy style. David is a graduate of the San Francisco Comedy College (SFCC) and a member of the Stand-Up Project Performance troupe. He performs regularly in comedy clubs, bars and showcases around the San Francisco Bay including The Improv in San Jose, Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale and Tommy T's in Pleasanton.

David was runner-up in the prestigious 2007 San Francisco International Comedy Competition, a competition that has launched the careers of such famous comedians as Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Kevin Pollak, Ellen Degeneres, Mark Currey, and Dane Cook (who, by the way all finished second too). David also won the 2007 Tommy T’s Comedy Competition and the 2006 Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Competition besting 100 comedians for each title. He was also a finalist in the Improv’s 2004, 2005 and 2007 Comedy Competitions. More recently David won the the 2009 San Francisco Love & Laughter Competition. He has featured for Richard Lewis, Christopher Titus, Bobby Collins, Will Durst and Tom Rhodes and was invited to audition for both HBO and the David Letterman Show.

Arthur Gaus: The comedy of Arthur Gaus is a study in contradictions. His perspective is both youthful and cynical. His material is feather-light as frequently as it is dark and nihilistic. Will Durst, who Arthur recently toured with, thinks he's a great fit for the Live at the Orinda audience. His delivery seamlessly moves from machine-gun staccato punch lines to artfully told stories to richly crafted characters. One moment he will stand on the edge of the stage defiantly and dynamically telling the audience precisely what he wants them to see, the next he will silently retreat to the microphone stand, allowing the audience to unearth subtleties for themselves. Nonetheless, while many descriptions do not fit Arthur's act precisely, the most important ones do: funny, sharp and unique.
